| Labor Day September 2005 Hurricane Katrina Relief
In response to the overwhelming cry for help from the folks in Louisiana and Mississippi, we rallied our forces from our East Coast and Midwestern offices to aid the situation in any way we could. With the help of many volunteers we were able to divert our Kansas City trucks that normally pick up donated automobiles to hauling emergency hurricane relief supplies to the Gulf Coast evacuees in Texas.
We purchased truckloads of supplies from Costco as well as hauled loads of donated goods collected by Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Our drivers were kind enough to volunteer their time and effort to collect the loads of supplies and drive them through the night to Texas, arriving the next morning. We helped fill some of the immediate needs of over 200 people being sheltered at the Vietnamese Martyr's Church, Houston, Texas and an additional 200 people being sheltered by the Dominican Sisters also in Houston, Texas.
As time goes on, our staff will continue to offer our assistance to these people in any way we can.
We here at The American Children's Society, would like to give our special thanks to these caring people from the Kansas City Area who helped make this effort possible:
Shelly Doyle, Kansas City Mike Lane, Kansas City
Marcia Tammeus & Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City
Joseph Lopez, Costco, Overland Park, KS
